The central event of our week is Worship. The chief aim of our Worship is to glorify God. The Preaching of the Word, the public reading of Scripture, the Hymns of Praise, the sharing of the Sacraments, the prayers of God’s people, and the Stewardship of the congregation make up our joyful worship experience.

Highlands enjoys a varied and rich life of worship. We are a ‘liturgical’ church, which means we observe the ‘seasons’ of the church year including: Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, and Pentecost. During the church year there are also many occasions of celebration and opportunities for additional services of worship. We have three services on Christmas Eve, Holy week services including Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and an Easter Sunrise Service.
We celebrate the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper on the first Sunday of each month and on other special occasions. The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated as need and the occasion arises. Both Communion and Baptism are integral and important aspects of our Worship.

We believe that children have a place in worship. We also believe in allowing children to progress in their understanding of what we do in worship according to their development. We provide a nursery experience for very young children. Children from 4 through 1st grade are invited to come to the first portion of worship in the Sanctuary. After “A Time With The Young Church” these children are invited to go to “Children’s Church,” which is a Worshipful experience designed for this age level.  Older children will find that the Highlands Worship Service is inclusive of all ages. (Children’s Church does not meet on Communion Sundays)

Following our worship services we invite everyone to come to the Dining Hall of our Family Life Center for a time a fellowship. Light refreshments and an opportunity to meet and greet one another help us to be informed as to the well being of our fellow members and visitors.

Music is an important part of our worship life.  Highlands enjoys a rich and varied music tradition which includes, among others, the following choirs and ensembles.

Highlands Adult Choir under the direction of Gibson Dixon is charged with the joy and responsibility of leading worship during     regular and special services, including special Worship experiences during the Holy days of the year.

Highlands has a five octave set of beautiful bells that are rung to God’s glory on various occasions.

Youth singers and Chime ringers share their gifts in glorifying God on each 2nd Sunday of the month.

Children’s choirs are part of our “LOGOS” program and sing on occasion during worship and at other special times.
