Worship - Committee Chair, Debbie Douget

"It is written, "Worship the Lord your God, and serve only him.’  "  LUKE 4: 8b

As Presbyterians, we are a covenant people as such we realize that the chief purpose of man is to worship and glorify our Creator God.  This scripture reference as well as many more guides the direction of our worship here at Highlands.

The Worship Committee with the guidance of Dr. David Lee and inspiration of the Holy Spirit seeks to provide reverent, meaningful and memorable worship experiences for our congregation.  We have an abundance of varied experiences from beginning Advent with our Hanging of the Greens, to our Christmas Eve candlelight services, the traditional Holy Week that begins with a joyous Palm Sunday celebration, Maundy Thursday ending in the “garden” and the intensity of Tenebrae, we strive to continually glorify our God.  Other special services include our Easter Sunrise worship where we return “light” to the empty tomb and the celebration of our Risen Lord at our other Easter services.  Wrapping up the season of Easter, we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost.

Throughout the year, every week we worship God in word and music.  The first Sunday of every month is set aside to celebrate and remember the meal that Jesus gave us in Communion.  As Presbyterians, we invite all that believe and claim Jesus the Christ as their Lord and Savior to partake of the special Sacrament.

Additionally, we have an active youth group at Highlands that takes part in the leadership of our Worship on one Sunday a month during the school year.

None of these things would be possible without a very dedicated core of volunteers that prepare Communion and prepare the Sanctuary for our special seasons and services.  The committee and all our volunteers truly believe that this is all part of the way we “Worship the Lord your God, and serve only him.”
