Mission - Committee Chair, Paul Wubbena

Highlands supports many local efforts to better the lives of our fellow citizens on the national, international and local level. These, among many others, include:

MISSION OF THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH (USA)
Oversees the work of missionaries, schools, hospitals and innumerable programs that seek to raise the quality of life for those receiving the ministry, as well as enabling others to care for themselves, all done in an atmosphere of sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ.

THE JAMAICA MUTUAL MISSION (JEMM)
A ministry of St. Augustine Presbytery and the Presbyterian Church of Jamaica that works with the people of Jamaica in mutual caring and mission. We use our ‘2 cents a meal’ offering to support this ministry.

ARLINGTON COMMUNITY SERVICES
ACS is the local food bank for this area of Jacksonville. We support this ministry financially in our budget and through special offerings by participating in the annual CROP walk for hunger and through weekly collection of food for immediate distribution   through ACS. Additionally, each year during Advent we collect “White Gifts” which are then used throughout the year at ACS. We are also represented at ACS with many Highlands volunteers and board members.

JACKSONVILLE CAMPUS MINISTRY
A campus ministry program at UNF which we support financially and through their ‘Food For Thought’ program, for which our youth supply meals.

FAMILY PROMISE
Family Promise of Jacksonville provides shelter, meals, and comprehensive support to families and children without homes.  Highlands is a “host” congregation providing overnight accommodations and meals for 3-5 families for one week every 10-12 weeks on a rotating basis.

ALTERNATIVE GIFT MARKET
Throughout the year we support Heifer, Ten Thousand Villages, and Alternative Gifts International.

COOKIES FROM HOME

Beginning in the fall of 2012 we will be sharing a program designed to bake and send cookies to sailors on the ships coming and going from Mayport. Watch for 'cookie calls' and 'bake days' coming soon!

First batch baked and delivered!
